ODE TO GLORY AND KRYSTAL YHATE
SUGAR JAYDE AND HENNA TURATH
ODE'S MIXEN MAIDEN WORKOUT
It didn't matter to Krystal that they were the last among the SOPS juvenile crop to break their maidens. Ode had captured her heart and her devotion. She had ridden his dam and she had loved her, too. And Ode had taken all the best qualities of Onya and paired them with All For Glory's stamina, speed, courage and heart. She had approved of this breeding right from the beginning and she wasn't having any doubts now. Ode was destined for greatness and even if it took him a while to get there she knew that he eventually would. She had planned a route of maiden races through March for them to attempt. His next one was the Mixen Maiden, over ten furlongs on the turf, and he was only facing two others as of right now. This meant that he stood a chance of breaking his maiden here, if Krystal just played her cards right. Ode was a mid packer, so he preferred larger fields, but Krystal wanted him to learn some speed today.
That was where Sugar Jayde came in. The gray filly was fleet of foot and had just broken into grade three. Henna was proud and looking for more competition. After making grade three she had been scratched from the Hambo - but that didn't mean she couldn't still help her stablemate along. She was lightning fast and she would help Ode take his running up another notch. Henna was looking for Jayde to assist Ode, and she also wanted to get a taste of the young two year old turfer. She knew that Krystal had just as much a way with turfers as Amber and she wanted to see how strong the connections between the two currently were. She also wanted to see how Jayde got along with the young colt. Jayde loved to sprint and Ode loved to run, so they should hit it off on the track.
The odds were looking to be against them in the maiden race though. Mini Monstorm and Jazzaway from Akita Rose had been entered as well as Livin' The Jazz from Intrepid. All of these horses were two year olds at least - thank god for that - but they all had better records than Ode. Livin' The Jazz took the krown in the record department, with three starts resulting in three seconds. The colt had class and was likely to win. He'd be a closer. Jazzaway had three starts as well, with two seconds and a fourth place finish in his first start. He would be setting the pace of the race, and was unlikely to go unchallenged up there for the majority of the race. The last entrant, Mini Monstorm, bragged three starts, with a second, a third and her most recent performance being a fourth in the Unicorn Horn. She would also be closing.
Looking like twins, Ode and Jayde galloped strongly side by side and fed each other's competitive sides. They were feeling strong and ready to go.
